Winterton Agricultural Society Annual General meeting Report
The Society held its AGM on Tuesday the 24th November. Chairman Brian McNeill reported 2009 had been one of the most successful years we have had as a society. (Now in its 138th year).
The show dinner at Winterton Rangers in March was a huge success attended by members and guest. We had an excellent speaker in Judy Theobald from Radio Lincolnshire.
This year’s show in July was a reversal of 2008 with fine weather over the weekend and one of the best Shows we have staged. This was due to the hard work that the committee put into making the show the best Agricultural show and family weekend in the area. Our thanks go to all our Family, friends and volunteers on the day for which we are so grateful, for without their support we would find it difficult to put on a show of such quality.
This year’s Bonfire and Firework event was a resounding success with the largest turnout by the public 4500 people and 1000 cars packed the showground. This was due to a group of hard working people on the bonfire committee the week before and on the night, along with many volunteers. Most of the monies raised this year have been spent on improving the facilities on the ground and general maintenance.
Hiring the showground continues to attract more events and the bookings for 2010 are looking very healthy. We always try to encourage both local and national groups to use the ground. They all say it’s the best ground in the area.
A new Treasurer Lisa Simon was appointed at the AGM along with four new committee members which are very welcome as many of the existing committee are getting on in years. However, we are always looking for additional members to serve on the committee to help with the ever increasing work load. Chairman Brian thanked all for making this a most enjoyable and successful year and is looking forward to another successful year in 2010.
Winterton Show dates for 2010 are the weekend 4th & 5th July.
